我爱花,犹以青棠,玉兰,木芙蓉为最。皆陆路之花尔。
人不能飞,却能善游。善游者,爱莲乎?检北宋周敦颐爱莲说如下:
水陆草木之花,可爱者甚蕃。晋陶渊明独爱菊。自李唐来,世人甚爱牡丹。予独爱莲之出淤泥而不染,濯清涟而不妖,中通外直,不蔓不枝,香远益清,亭亭净植,可远观而不可亵玩焉。
予谓菊,花之隐逸者也;牡丹,花之富贵者也;莲,花之君子者也。噫!菊之爱,陶后鲜有闻。莲之爱,同予者何人?牡丹之爱,宜乎众矣!
今知花木之名繁多,择数种偏爱,颐养性情,最为合适。唐代刘禹锡陋室铭:

山不在高,有仙则名。水不在深,有龙则灵。斯是陋室,惟吾德馨。苔痕上阶绿,草色入帘青。谈笑有鸿儒,往来无白丁。可以调素琴,阅金经。无丝竹之乱耳,无案牍之劳形。南阳诸葛庐,西蜀子云亭。孔子云:何陋之有?
由此观之,花花世界,芸芸众生。或孤标傲世,或八面玲珑,或老实巴交,或先善后恶,或先恶后善,或夹善夹恶……正如红楼梦中贾雨村格物致知之功:
子兴见他说得这样重大,忙请教其端.雨村道:“天地生人,除大仁大恶两种,余者皆无大异.若大仁者,则应运而生,大恶者,则应劫而生.运生世治,劫生世危.尧,舜,禹,汤,文,武,周,召,孔,孟,董,韩,周,程,张,朱,皆应运而生者.蚩尤,共工,桀,纣,始皇,王莽,曹躁,桓温,安禄山,秦桧等,皆应劫而生者.大仁者,修治天下,大恶者,挠乱天下.清明灵秀,天地之正气,仁者之所秉也,残忍乖僻,天地之邪气,恶者之所秉也.今当运隆祚永之朝,太平无为之世,清明灵秀之气所秉者,上至朝廷,下及草野,比比皆是.所余之秀气,漫无所归,遂为甘露,为和风,洽然溉及四海.彼残忍乖僻之邪气,不能荡溢于光天化日之中,遂凝结充塞于深沟大壑之内,偶因风荡,或被云催,略有摇动感发之意,一丝半缕误而泄出者,偶值灵秀之气适过,正不容邪,邪复妒正,两不相下,亦如风水雷电,地中既遇,既不能消,又不能让,必至搏击掀发后始尽.故其气亦必赋人,发泄一尽始散.使男女偶秉此气而生者,在上则不能成仁人君子,下亦不能为大凶大恶.置之于万万人中,其聪俊灵秀之气,则在万万人之上,其乖僻邪谬不近人情之态,又在万万人之下.若生于公侯富贵之家,则为情痴情种,若生于诗书清贫之族,则为逸士高人,纵再偶生于薄祚寒门,断不能为走卒健仆,甘遭庸人驱制驾驭,必为奇优名倡.如前代之许由,陶潜,阮籍,嵇康,刘伶,王谢二族,顾虎头,陈后主,唐明皇,宋徽宗,刘庭芝,温飞卿,米南宫,石曼卿,柳耆卿,秦少游,近日之倪云林,唐伯虎,祝枝山,再如李龟年,黄幡绰,敬新磨,卓文君,红拂,薛涛,崔莺,朝云之流,此皆易地则同之人也。”
可知中国人翻译的佛典(《华严经》:‘一尘中有尘数刹,一一刹有难思佛’,或《梵网经》卷上谓:卢舍那佛坐千叶大莲花中,化出千尊释迦佛,各居千叶世界中,其中每一叶世界的释迦佛,又化出百亿释迦佛,坐菩提树。)所散发的思想一花一世界(送禅人持钵——融融春景绝纤埃。五叶腾芳七叶开。子内子生枝上菓。一花一叶一如来。或唐蜗寄题庐山东林寺三笑庭联:桥跨虎溪,三教三源流,三人三笑语;莲开僧舍,一花一世界,一叶一如来。)盖同于西方文学中折射出的观点:一千个人心目当中有一千个哈姆雷特。
故而齐物之论,美丑妍媸,长短高低…..若能于不时之中得于统一,未免祸坏。
